Yonder Wood Workshops

Timber Framed Structures - Craft Courses - Woodware

What we do.....

Yonder Wood Workshops is run by Tom, a qualified and experienced teacher and greenwood craft tutor. We offer a variety of wood craft courses for all ages and abilities from our workshop in the hamlet of Ruthvoes, Cornwall. Our focus is primarily on hand tools and traditional methods as a method to encourage and inspire you through hands-on and creative experiences of woodworking.

When not teaching, we are also busy in the workshop creating bespoke commissions.

Wholesomely home grown.

I'm a woodworker and teacher. I qualified as a Technology teacher in 2006 working in mainstream schools in Cornwall and South Devon. In 2009, following some time spent traveling I started looking for ways to be more creative and practical in my work. Initially this was with animal housing and chicken sheds (that is still going) but quickly developed into a passion for greenwood working.

Following an apprenticeship with Guy Mallinson in the Autumn of 2009 at his woodland workshop in Dorset, I found a love for using freshly felled Ash and other timbers to craft chairs. I continued to work at the Woodland Workshop as a greenwood tutor on various courses such as Tree to Chair, Bowl Carving and Pole Lathe Turning. I continued to develop my greenwood working skills in conjunction with establishing a woodwork workshop.

With two young kids and a beautiful workspace 2016 is the year to bring together all our woodworking passions into Yonder Wood Workshops. Our vision is a wood work workshop where we make chairs and timber structures, and host courses to help spread the love of being creative and practical.
